Abstract: VicRoads inaccurately describes this project as a CFI even though it has no CFI crossovers. The proposed design has one Paraflow movement and 2 Thruturn movements. No provision is made for right turns from eastbound Swan unto southbound Hoddle. This is first of 4 intersections on Hoddle to be converted to 2-phase operation. VicRoads expects to convert all 4 intersections for a total of AU$60 million.
Abstract: Main Rd is one of two gateways to Johns Island, a popular recreation destination. Current traditional signal has high crash rate which is main reason for redesign.
Abstract: This CFI is unique because it excludes the right-turn ramps so that it can fit with minimal need for new right-of-way. These ramps help reduce likelihood that drivers will turn into oncoming traffic.
